Evaluation & Assessment

Evaluating and documenting the community level impacts of your program.

Evaluating the needs of leadership in the community.

Understanding and documenting the needs for leadership development in the community is an important step for program designers. The Community Leadership Priorities Assessment is a tool that can be used to assess the leadership interests of community members. Knowing the interest areas of your class participants will help leadership facilitators to better understand the interests and application context for leadership skills.

Assessment of personal leadership development is often reflected through changes in knowledge, attitudes, and skills.

Changes in knowledge are often assessed with pre and post assessment tools which are intended to note where the participant was in knowledge before the program (pre) in comparison with knowledge after the program (post).  A sample civic leadership related pre-post document is provided. Community Change Competency Checklist

Changes in attitudes are also often assessed before and after the program with a pre-post assessment. Changes in attitudes may include perceptions about community groups, attitudes about meaningful community involvement, confidence in self, or leadership relationships.

Changes in skills are often assessed through demonstration of skills. Again, the change implies an early assessment of a skill compared to mastery of the skill through practice.

All three of these types of assessments should be measured using consistent and specific measurement criteria.

This site will continue to expand as we add assessment tools.

Community Impacts of Leadership

Many program leaders struggle to tell the story of how their leadership development program is impacting the broader community.

Using Ripple Effects Mapping (REM), Dr. Nicole Breazeale from the University of Kentucky can assist you with capturing and documenting impacts of your program.  We have included two examples of REM outcomes of community leadership development programs here. If you are interested in REM for your program, please contact Dr. Breazeale or Blueprint Kentucky.
